MIB Browser - Getting Started

Use the shortcut 'Start->Programs->WinAgents MIB Browser->MIB Browser' to start WinAgents MIB Browser. After you start the program, it takes several seconds for it to load installed MIB modules and build the MIB tree. In case there are errors in the process of loading, you will get a report pointing out files that caused them and why it could happen. After modules are loaded, the Main Window of the program containing the MIB tree will appear on the screen. If you launch the program for the first time, you will have to add the network devices you are going to work with to the tree.

There are two ways to add a device:

  1. Network Discovery Wizard. WinAgents MIB Browser has a special tool for analyzing network topology and detecting network devices. See the Network Discovery Wizard section to get the complete information about adding network devices to the program automatically.
  2. Manually. You can add a device to the program manually. To do it, you will have to specify its address and parameters for accessing it via the SNMP protocol. See the Adding and removing devices section to get information about how to do it.

After you add the devices you can work with their SNMP variables. To do it, open the node corresponding to a particular device in the MIB tree. Each device has its MIB hierarchy that you can view using the MIB tree. Variables corresponding to the node selected in the MIB tree are displayed in the panel to the right. See the Working with the MIB tree section to get additional information about working with the MIB tree and variables.

You may need to work with variables that are not contained in the MIB modules included in the standard WinAgents MIB Browser package. In this case, you should add the module you need to the MIB repository of the program. To do it, switch to the MIB modules mode and select the 'Actions->Add MIB' command from the menu. Use the dialog box to select the file you need and click OK. The module will be added to the repository while its variables will be added to the MIB tree. The Working with MIB modules section contains additional information about working with the MIB repository of the program.

Go to the Main window section to get acquainted with the elements in the main window of the program or to the Main menu section to get acquainted with the structure of the menu. The Options section will help you to configure the program according to your requirements.
